Hunter Hydro- Sports is a grass roots father son outboard racing team out of Gravenhurst Ontario, Canada that originated from playing with seafleas at the cottage. Here is a brief timeline for the race team.
2007
In 2005 Will Hunter bought his first hydroplane which he restored with his dad, Jim Hunter. Will saved up his money from selling finishing bait in the summer for two years until he had enough money to buy the boat. By 2007 the restoration was finally finished and the boat was ready for the water. This was the start for the Hunter family's passion for hydroplanes.
2009
After driving his lake racer for two years, Will decided to upgrade to a light, fast ASH race hull. He bought the boat and rebuilt the transom with his father to fit his motor so he would be able to practice with intentions in racing in the future.
2010
After a year of driving his new boat around the lake, Will attended his first race in Dunnville Ontario with his father as his pit crew. Will raced the boat in JSH weighing in over 40 pounds over weight and came third place over all that weekend. After this weekend the racing bug had bitten Will and Jim. This was the beginning to the race team.
2011
Over the next winter Will acquired a new and better ASH outfit and gave it a crazy paint job. He also bought a BCH outfit from Pennsylvania. This season he raced AXSH, ASH, and BCH with great results for his rookie season. He placed second overall in AXSH, fifth in ASH, and third in BCH. His racing results won him TORC's (Toronto Outboard Racing Club) rookie of the year.
2012
Will was voted in as an executive for TORC and assisted in planning events and helping TORC bring outboard racing in Ontario to the next level. This year Will raced BCH and left ASH/AXSH to race in 25SSH. Will had a very successful season by winning multiple race weekends which gave him Canadian national high-points championship in both BCH and 25SSH. Hunter Hydro-Sports gave a local Gravenhurst teen a chance to race their ASH outfit throughout the racing season and he placed fifth overall in ASH.
